FIRST YEAR CURRICULUM
This curriculum may be changed and added to at the discretion of N.G.B.S. as deemed fit to do.
Christianity 101
The name of the subject indicates that it is a very broad outline of what Christianity is. We believe that understanding the basics of the Christian faith is necessary at the start of our Christian studies, as the average Christian is not aware of the core believes of the Christian faith. We will therefore address many aspects of the Christian faith that will also be thoroughly discussed in other subjects, but in this case, it will only touch the basics.
Hermeneutics
Hermeneutics simply means; ‘rightly dividing the Word of God’. The Bible makes a most amazing claim for itself. It claims to be the written Word of God. This is so bold that it requires our personal investigation. If the Bible is not what it claims to be, then we should not give serious consideration to its teachings. However, if the Bible reasonably supports its claims, we should devote the rest of our lives to reading, studying and applying its teachings to our lives. We should then get to know the God of the Bible.
Person & Work of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the triune God and the only operational one in the earthly realm. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that we clearly define the Holy Spirit and understand what and how He works in the earth and in and through the believer. A clear understanding of this will void us from deception and confusion and will cause us to live in and according to the power of God.
Man, Sin & Salvation
The Christian message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ only has meaning for someone who understands that man is in a predicament. Trite clichés like ‘Jesus saves’ are meaningless unless a man knows he is a sinner in need of salvation. Therefore, before we can correctly understand the doctrine of salvation, we must understand what the Bible teaches about man and sin, because salvation is the solution to the problem caused by sin.
How to be who you are
This course is design to teach all believers what it means to be a Christian. Unfortunately, not many do understand the lifestyle that should accompany the Christian faith. As New Testament believers we are certainly no longer under the Old Testament Law or are not required by God, to live according to the Old Testament, but we are required to live like children of God. We are to be His ambassadors through our character, conduct, and commitment to our faith in Jesus.
Doctorine of the Church
This is one of the many important doctrines of Christianity and crucial for every believer to understand. The institution of the Christian Church is by many seriously misunderstood and therefore an important subject and doctrine.
Why we come to Church
This subject is design to teach God’s original intent for the Church. To help us understand why we come to church and what God has called us to do. It will also teach us the plan of the local church, to reach the Word and to build the infrastructure.
Christian Doctrines
This course is design to give basic insight into the foundation of the Christian faith and the Doctrines that forms its theology. It is true that when the foundation of anything is not solid, whatever gets build on it, will be influenced in a negative way. Thus, a lack of knowledge and understanding of Christian Doctrines will cause us to error and build false believes, mistaking it as the truth. This study will cover those doctrines not covered in the school.
